Breitling
Breitling - A brief History
Breitling watches are not simply a sign of exquisite tastes. These high-quality watches are also world renowned for their durability and sturdiness, thus making them a favorite brand name among pilots.
Breitling's modest birth dates back to 1884 when Leon Breitling set up a workshop in St. Imier in the Switzerland. He had a special interest in developing chronographs and precision counters and so it comes as no surprise that throughout the changing times the company has maintained this particular theme in their watches.
Breitling's son, Gaston, was the one who introduced the wristwatch chronograph. These watches were a favorite among pilots, so much so that that company became the official supplier for the Royal Air Force. Soon enough, they expanded their exports to supply the American forces.
The company's contribution to various industries is testimony to its image as a sturdy, reliable watch of the highest quality. Their 1950s Navitimer, with an impressive log calculator, was sought out by pilots from all over the world. They also contributed to the aviation industry in many other ways. There was the cockpit clocks as well the famous Cosmonaute Navitimer worn by Scott Carpenter.
Breitling watches boast numerous landmark models. There is, of course, the Navitimer, with its trendsetting navigation computer. Then there is the Breitling Emergency which offers a radio transmitter. Its function was further popularized by the timely rescue of British pilots from a helicopter crash in the Antarctic. Apparently they were traced via the radio transmitters in their Breitling watches.
