Bulova
Bulova is said to be one of the largest watchmaking companies in the world. Famous for creating timely classics that are both elegant and precise, Bulova products have been setting trends since the company's early foundations in the 1870s.
The company started out as a small jewelry shop, set up by Joseph Bulova. His business sales bloomed as more and more people bought his desktop clocks and pocket watches. It was not long before the Bulova Watch Company Inc. was established.
Throughout the turbulent times, from two World Wars, the Depression and all the way to the innovative days of the space race, Bulova watches have played a significant role in people's lives. During the two wars, Bulova watches were immensely popular among the troops. In addition to this, the company was also a key supplier of various precision timepieces for the military (for military watches, aircraft equipment and torpedo mechanisms). During the Great Depression, the company eased payment for buyers by introducing a time-payment plan. And during the famous space missions of the 1960s, Bulova Company provided NASA with clocks and timekeeping pieces for the spacecraft.
The company was always heralded as a trendsetter. They were one of the first to introduce a full line of jeweled wristwatches for men and women. They were also one of the earliest watchmaking companies to utilize radio and television commercials to promote their products. The first electronic watch, Accutron, is also credited to this creative company. This brand of watch is also the official US watch that was presented to the American Olympic team.
